Kitchen Update

So, as most of you know, we are in a home that has not been updated since it was built in the 60s.  We love the character, but we don’t love these wonderful details…

I have always wanted a picket fence, just not this one

We participated in the *junkrestore* market this weekend and I bought these beauties from one of our amazing vendor Shabby Junker!

This inspired my hubby and I to get busy on the kitchen.  Down the road, we plan to do a full reno of the kitchen (Dream land) but for now we needed to make it at least a little cute.

My little men jumped at the opportunity to “help”

Yes, we are painting over wallpaper.  I would normally not do this, but these walls will be coming down eventually, so I wanted to put as little time and effort in this project as possible to make it cute until the big redo.

We primed the walls and it opened up the kitchen already!

I have a dilemma though.  We will not be replacing the counter tops until the big redo, so we have to live with these ugly things.

They are a speckled off white and tan with really dark and dirty grout.  Believe it or not, these are sparkly clean.  Yuck!

I would normally do white cabinets and white walls and use the EAT sign as the pop of color, but I fear the counter top will look worse against all white.  So I was thinking dark grey cabinets and a cream color on the wall.

Inspiration photos…

I also am planning on painting our old fridge with chalkboard paint.
